Milani Color Fetish Hydrating Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Milani Color Fetish Hydrating Lip Stain ($13.99) is a new, hydrating lip stain available in six shades that contains hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and plant-derived Squalane. The formula is has a glossy shine finish that transforms as it dries down to a semi-matte one that promises up to eight hours of wear. This formula reminds me of products like Maybelline Vinyl Ink Lipstick and Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil.

This is a pretty soft launch for Milani as I’m surprised they only did six shades. I sometimes think they do this to see how a product will perform and if it does well we get a second round with more shades. I would have liked it if they did a few softer nudes because this launch of shades pretty much packs in some very bold reds and berries. If bold isn’t your lip look of choice you might wish to skip these.

Milani Color Fetish Hydrating Lip Stain are 0.17 oz in size and $13.99 each. Maybelline Superstay Vinyl Ink is a bit smaller at 0.14 oz and $9.99-$12.99 but the two aren’t dupes of each other but they are similar styles of products. Milani’s formula is a bit thicker in consistency, seems a lot shiner to me, and feels more moisturizing. I thought Maybelline’s version was a bit runny and watery this is not. It’s more of a gel-like consistency that’s very moisturizing on the first application and stays fairly hydrating through the wear even well after it dried down.

This formula isn’t as weightless as Maybelline’s version but wears very comfortably on my lips with a glossy finish that remains glossy for about an hour into the wear. It has a gel-like consistency that applies easily on lips and feels very hydrating. It deserves mentioning this is made in Korea so if you’ve dried a lot of the stains that pop up in the world of K-Beauty this definitely has the same formulas those. Although, gel-like in consistency it does feel lightly balmy as well on my lips!

They promise eight hours of wear from this but sadly, it migrates terribly to the center of my lips within a half hour. It can be easily reapplied or you can smooth it with your finger to get it to look smoother. But the migration is irritating especially when you want to apply something, get going and get on with your day. This requires a bit of maintenance after that initial application. It does transfer as well. If you’re sipping a cup of tea or coffee expect it to transfer, rub off, etc… It does not wear for eight hours. Once it sets and the glossiness disappears you’ll be left with a pretty stain but the glossiness wears away within an hour and the stain disappears an hour or so after that. It’s not 100% transfer-proof nor long-wearing. The shade I’m wearing and that I swatched below is called Mahogany Mami.

I will say it wears comfortable if not a bit heavier. It feels hydrating on lips and even once it settles down it’s not a traditional matte or dry finish. Even at the dry down it still feels lightly moisturizing on my lips. The pigment is awesome on it. The color is vibrant and bold. I only got one shade to try but pretty sure all of them are just as pigmented and bold.

Milani Color Fetish Hydrating Lip Stain isn’t really my lip product of choice. It’s very pretty on lips and moisturizing but the wear time is short and the migration is frustrating.

Milani Color Fetish Hydrating Lip Stain ($13.99) is a new, hydrating lip stain available in six shades that contains hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and Squalane. The price is $13.99 and the size is 0.17 oz. The formula is that of a gel-like consistency with a lightly balmy feel on lips and a glossy finish that loses glossiness with 30 minutes. The color does migrate to my inner lips and requires smoothing with my finger or reapplication to maintain a fresh, smooth look. It has a fairly heavy feel on lips but a comfortable, moisturizing one. It does transfer and doesn’t offer the promise of eight hours of wear and fades fairly fast as well so doesn’t quite work as a stain after it sets and dries down.

Pros

  • Very pigmented.
  • Very hydrating.

Cons

  • Migrates, transfer easily.
  • Doesn’t wear long, fades quickly.
